COVID-19 Response Scholarships Officially Set up by MSc Programme in Data Science

The COVID-19 Response Scholarships was officially set up by MSc Programme in Data Science on April 24, at 50, 000 RMB per person for the 2021 intake that meet the relevant requirements.

The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most challenging public health emergencies for China and even the world. It is also a devastating blow for Hubei Province. Since Wuhan’s lockdown on Jan 23, Hubei people have been facing a tough battle against the coronavirus. Medical staff are the first to bear the brunt.

Besides the medical staff, their children and Hubei students’ lives have been greatly affected by the pandemic. To express sincere thanks to great efforts made by all medical staff and Hubei people, The COVID-19 Response Scholarships was officially set up by MSc Programme in Data Science.

Overview of the Scholarship
Amount: 50, 000 RMB
Applicant: Students of the Class of 2021
Note: Applicants need to choose either this scholarship or entry scholarship, and they will receive the one with more amount.
Eligibility
Students admitted by the MSc Programme in Data Science of Class 2021 are eligible to receive the scholarships, if one of the following conditions is qualified:
Parents are medical staff in the front line
Household is registered in Hubei Province
Undergraduate university is located in Hubei Province


Application Procedure
After the first semester, please submit your application and supporting documents by yourself. The review and assessment will be conducted by the committee of the Programme.
Note: MSc Programme in Data Science of CUHK-Shenzhen reserves the right of the final explanations of this scholarship.

As the continuous development of society, there is an increasing demand for professional talents with the abilities of effectively using, processing, analyzing and deeply exploring big data. Therefore, the Data Science has received comprehensive attentions from the fields of business, natural science, life and medical sciences and others. This Master Programme combines the elementary theory of data science, data collection and management, data analysis and extensible knowledge exploration. It is designed to lay a solid foundation for students in areas of big data science and data analytics.

The period of MSc Programme in Data Science lasts two years(pending for confirmation). Graduates will learn the most cutting-edge big data processing technology and will get familiar with advanced theories and methods to support the big data technology. In addition, students will participate in a practical research project before their graduation to demonstrate their proficiently in using the basic concepts of data science to design innovative methods and applications in various fields such as business, government, security, medical, biology, natural sciences, and environment. It is a joint programme launched by School of Science and Engineering and School of Management and Economics, in collaboration with Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data and Shenzhen Finance Institute. Faculty members from two schools and the research institutes will serve as instructors together.
It is a full-time programme, with two streams of Big Data Analytics and Business Analytics. All courses are taught in English, and the application procedure is consistent with overseas standards. Postgraduates will receive Master Degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Graduated with a major in either science, engineering, economics or finance;
Good background in mathematics and programming

Standard Application
Applicants should have:
Graduated from an honor’s programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than “B” (GPA 3.0/4.0 or 80/100)

Fulfilled the English Language Proficiency Requirement (The applicants should achieve either one of the followings):
TOEFL (not lower than 79 internet-based; University Code: B429);
IELTS (Academic) (not lower than Band 6.5);
GMAT (Verbal not lower than 21);
or
Have obtained a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country/region.
Summer Camp
Applicants need to meet three conditions of the followings:
Year 3 undergraduates in any majors (fresh graduates of Class 2021);
Top 30% in rankings of universities of 985 and 211 project (the first three years or first five semester);
Top 10% in rankings of other universities (the first three years or first five semester).
English requirements:
CET 4 (not lower than 550); CET 6 (not lower than 520); IELTS (Academic) (not lower than Band 6.5); TOEFL (not lower than 79 internet-based); GMAT (Verbal not lower than 21); or have obtained a recognized professional English qualification.
