The 2022 SME-SFI Ming Kang Award and Teaching Award Ceremony was held on February 20, 2023. According to decisions of the Committee, the Ming Kang Outstanding Research Awards were presented to Professor Shu Tao and Tong Shilu; the Ming Kang Young Researcher Awards, Professor Hu Zhongchen, Ming Liu, Zhang Peng, and Teh Tat-How; the Undergraduate Teaching Awards, Professor Bao Zhuolan, Liu Na, Shi Duo, and Zhang Wen; the Postgraduate Teaching Awards, Professor Wang Xiaoqiao and Zou Wenli; and the Teaching Assistant Awards, Ms. Wang Jiamin, Wei Lai, and Wu Shuangjie respectively. Liu Mingkang, former Chairman of China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, Special-term Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) and board member of Shenzhen Finance Institute (SFI), Xu Yangsheng, President of CUHK-Shenzhen, Tom Z.Q. Luo, Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen, Tony Li, Shu Tao, and Wang Cong, Associate Vice Presidents of CUHK-Shenzhen, and the management team of the School of Management and Economics (SME) and SFI attended the award ceremony.
The Ming Kang Award and Teaching Award have been set by SME and SFI since 2022. The Ming Kang Award was set up to encourage scientific research innovation in economics and management and show gratitude to Professor Liu Mingkang, Special-term Professor of CUHK-Shenzhen, board member of SFI, Alternate Member of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Member of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and former Deputy Director of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, for his care, support and help to SME, SFI and CUHK-Shenzhen.
The Ming Kang Outstanding Research Award aims to recognize and reward teachers with outstanding achievements in scientific research and shall be presented to no more than two winners in a year. the Ming Kang Young Researcher Award is designed to recognize and reward non-tenured teachers with excellent achievements in scientific research and shall be presented to no more than four winners in a year. The Teaching Awards include the Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Postgraduate Teaching Award, and the Teaching Assistant Award. In particular, the Teaching Assistant Award aims to recognize teachers with outstanding performance in class teaching and curriculum innovation (including those involved in both undergraduate and graduate programs) while the Teaching Assistant Award intends to recognize teaching assistants who have made outstanding contributions in teaching and academic activities.
Xiong Wei, Academic Dean of SME and Academic Director of SFI, CUHK-Shenzhen, delivered an opening speech for the award ceremony. He expressed that the award was set to encourage and motivate more active academic engagements, major research innovation, and outstanding research contributions within the faculty team. On behalf of the School, he extended his heartfelt gratitude to Professor Liu Mingkang for his strong support in the development of SME and SFI over the years and the generous donation.
Professor Liu Mingkang delivered a keynote speech at the award ceremony. He pointed out that the intention of this award was to inspire an increasing number of research fellows to work hard for solutions to the challenges and dilemmas facing humanity.
