The financial industry has entered the era of financial technology (FinTech) in an all-round way. Financial technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain are widely used in the financial field, and financial technologies are profoundly changing the financial ecology and reshaping the financial structure. The MSc in Finance programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen keeps abreast of the times, launches a new FinTech concentration, and cultivates inter-disciplinary talents.

Interpretation from Professor

Professor Shu Tao

Presidential Chair Professor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen

Associate Director of Shenzhen Finance Institute

Director of MSc in Finance Programme

Co-Director of Capital Market and Asset Management Research Center

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, where The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is located, covers both finance and technology sectors, which is a rare advantage in the world. We need to make use of this advantage to cultivate FinTech talents. Through the interactions with enterprises, we found that enterprises need talents who master both finance and science & technology. Enterprises are not short of financial talents nor technical talents; their biggest problem is the way technical talents and business departments communicate and think. The FinTech talents with compound backgrounds can well understand the applications of technology in business scenarios and solve the problems encountered in enterprises. In addition to enterprises, there is a great need for such professionals in institutions to meet the development of the FinTech sector.

Department of Economics, School of Economics, Peking University

If I were to use two key words to describe myself, I would say “A cool head, but warm heart”. My undergraduate study in Economics has made me accustomed to thinking from the perspective of rational people and optimization, while real-life problems will tell me that sometimes life is emotional, and our acts of kindness will inadvertently bring warmth to others.

I got the offer from the MSc in Finance Programme (FinTech concentration) through the Summer Camp in 2021, and became one of the first to be accepted in this new concentration. With youthful spirit and professional proficiency, the location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the international teaching and cultivation modes brought by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the programme left me with the first impression of openness and vitality.
