Elaine Wu

Managing Director of the BlackRock Investment Institute

Elaine Wu is a Managing Director of the BlackRock Investment Institute, which leverages the firm’s expertise and generates proprietary research to provide insights on macroeconomics, sustainable investing, geopolitics and portfolio construction to help Blackrock’s portfolio managers and clients navigate financial markets. She is based in Hong Kong and leads the sustainable investment research team in Asia-Pacific.   Elaine has 15 years of experience in equity research, using fundamental, bottom-up analyses to generate company and sector views on Asian stocks. Most recently, she was the Head of Asia ex-Japan ESG and Utilities Equity Research at J.P. Morgan and had worked at Nomura and Lehman Brothers prior to that. Elaine's research has been recognized by several industry surveys. She achieved First Place ESG Analyst ranking in the Institutional Investor All-Asia Research Poll (2021 & 2022). Her team ranked first in ESG Research and third in Power Research of that survey. Elaine has also been recognized in rankings from Greenwich and Thomson Reuters Asia Analyst Awards.   Elaine authored "Financing Mechanisms for Water Treatment Projects in China," a chapter within Financing Investment in Water Security (Elsevier, 2022). She was a journalist in the US and Hong Kong before joining the financial industry. Elaine holds double MBA degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Countries representing about 90% of global GDP have committed to net-zero or carbon neutrality targets. This will bring about profound changes to investment flows in the energy system. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for about half of global carbon emissions and will see increased investments to decarbonize the region.
